LABORATORY FLUIDIZED BED DRYER
DRYING, GRANULATION, COATING
Lab Scale Fluidized Bed Dryer (also called Fluid Bed Dryer) designed for 3 different laboratory processes:
■ Drying of wet granulate.
■ Top drive granulation.
■ Bottom spray coating for micro granules.
Innovative high-quality equipment certified by accredited entities.
Fully designed and built in Europe following regulatory requirements and GMP´s normative.
Used for new product development, with a technology that easily allows changing to pilot scale. And also provides useful information for industrial batches.
It disposes of 2 interchangeable recipients: 4,5 L and 9 L capacity.
The Laboratory Fluidized Bed Dryer allows setting up specific drying programs for each product, which are executed from the operator touch panel, through necessary commands and controllers, achieving that in the process development and program set-up we can eliminate characteristic problems, such as:
■ Formation of air channels.
■ Lack of uniformity in the drying process.
■ Localized overheating of the granulation.
■ Attrition of the granulation as it dries.
More and more it is important to optimize processes before industrialization. Obviously to minimize risks in time and cost. In STE we have a pilot plant for testing purposes with all equipment on a pilot scale. This facility allows the client to do a complete scaling-up for each process.
STE TECPHARM offers all range of services such as installation, integration in client facilities, start-up, qualification, training, and production support
In the Fluidized Bed Dryer, the drying process is carried out to reduce the humidity in the granule.
Hot air is introduced through a vacuum generated inside the equipment. The wet solids rise from the bottom and are suspended in a current of air, remaining in a fluidized state.
The heat transfer and the low humidity of the air in direct contact with the wet granule allow the evaporation of the water or solvents, reducing their humidity.
The top spray allows to carry out the granulation process in the Fluidized Bed Dryer.
The movement of the powder in a fluidized state is combined with the spraying of a binder solution. This combination allows increasing the particle sizing, generating a granulate.
The coating process in the Fluidized Bed Dryer is carried out by combining the spraying of the coating suspension on the microgranules in fluid bed movement.
Spraying is done from the bottom and can be:
■ Vertical through tubular (wurster system).
■ Tangential rotation (tangential spray).
